NAAA Child Care Centre
“So long as millions live in hunger and ignorance, I hold every person a traitor who, having been educated at their expense, pays not the least heed to them.” – Swami Vivekananda
The 2012 batch of Officer Trainees had started a creche facility for the children of migrant labourers in Shimla. This was a means of giving back to the society and emerged as an area which exposed the Officer Trainees to facets of social responsibility. Before setting up the Centre, Officer Trainees had visited the “Mobile Crèche Centre”, run by an NGO in New Delhi and received guidance from them. A humble financial contribution from officers and staff of the Academy helped in creating a corpus for this cause. On 6th of March 2013, Justice Kurien Joseph (Former Chief Justice of Himachal Pradesh and then Supreme Court Judge) inaugurated the “NAAA Child Care Centre” formally, in the presence of Principal AG (Himachal Pradesh). An experienced female caretaker and four children of migrant labourers marked the beginning of the Centre.
This facility was taken forward by the subsequent batches. Each batch added their contributions such as installing a Personal Computer, arranging for every day transportation of the children, painting of the Child Care Centre and provision of toys and a wholesome, nutritious lunch. Presently the strength of the Centre is 15. The expenses are met through monthly contributions by the Officer Trainees, Directors and Director General and occasional contributions from the staff.
Blood Donation Camp
Blood donation camps are organised annually by the Social Outreach Committee. The Blood Donation Wing of Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla is approached for conducting the activity. The camp is conducted at Yarrows for the donors from the National Academy of Audit and Accounts and the Accountant General’s Office, Himachal Pradesh, for donors from the AG’s office. The collected blood is sorted and deposited at IGMC. Blood donors are provided with refreshments and a certificate acknowledging their contribution.
Distribution of Cloth
“The simplest acts of kindness are by far more powerful than a thousand heads bowing in prayer.” ― Mahatma Gandhi
Distributing clothes to crèche kids and kids of migrant laborers is one among the various activities of the Social Outreach Committee. A part of the outreach fund is used to provide new winter clothes to the needy children. This is done usually before the arrival of winter so that the children are protected from the tooth-biting cold of Shimla. Children are also given new clothes during special occasions like Republic Day and Independence Day depending on the availability of funds.
